INDICATIONS
To assist in the cellular detoxification of residual toxins as a consequence of ingestion of food additives. Effects of these accumulated toxins are frequently delayed in onset. Allergenic responses are primary manifestations of this toxicity.
COMPONENTS
· ACIDULENTS: citric and sorbic acids, are used to impart acidity to improve food stability.
· BLEACHES: carbamide and hydrogen peroxides, remove natural coloring for more cosmetic whiteness, i.e. flour, sugar.
· EMULSIFIERS, HUMECTANTS and THICKENERS are often added to some foods to prevent oil separation and water loss increasing bulk. Agar, glycerin, mineral oil, pectin, polysorbate and sorbitol are popular additives.
· LEAVENINGS are employed in baking. Alum and aluminum salts are often used as leavening and have been implicated in neurologic problems.
· SOLVENTS: acetone and hexane, occur as a result of food processing.
