ALKA - C

Nutritional balance and support for the endocrine system

Product Details:

Have you ever wondered how sailors became known as limeys? It all has to do with the disease scurvy. Although scurvy has been described and documented as far back as Hippocrates, it was not until the 1700's when a Scottish captain in the British Royal Navy, Dr. James Lind, proved that eating citrus fruit prevented scurvy. Deciding it was the acidic nature of the citrus fruit, doctors of the time thought limes would be even more beneficial, so the British Royal Navy stocked limes on their ships. Hence, the slang name for sailors came to be "limeys." Just think if they had Alka-C back then!

We have greatly advanced our understanding of ascorbic acid since those times. It has been widely used clinically and nutritionally as an antioxidant, for immune support, as treatment for cold and flu, to support adrenal function, the ability to make healthy tissue through the formation and maintenance of collagen, and to assist with the wide range of viral, bacterial and fungal infections and inflammatory problems of all kinds.Ascorbic acid has been shown to be absorbed into the body within two hours and out of the blood within three to four hours. It is used up more rapidly: under stressful situations, with diabetes, in the elderly, with smoking and with alcohol use. It is the most commonly supplemented vitamin and the most well-known. Alka-C is an excellent source of buffered vitamin c and a great alternative to artificially sweetened vitamin c products in powder form. Just stir into water or juice for a tasty, immune boosting effervescent beverage!

Key Ingredients (per 1 heaping teaspoon):

Vanadium (as Aspartate) 100 mcg Essential trace mineral that has been shown to help reduce cholesterol levels in some people

Chromium
(as Abchome GTF) 50 mcg Essential mineral and the central part of GTF (glucose tolerance factor). It has been used in the treatment of both hypoglycemia and diabetes mellitus. Tissue levels of Chromium have been noted to decrease with age.

Selenium (as Aspartate) 50 mcg Essential mineral that functions as a component of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. Selenium is part of a nutritional antioxidant system in the body. May be beneficial in treating a variety of inflammatory problems such as lupus.

Manganese (as Aspartate) 5 mg Essential mineral important to many enzyme systems in carrying out such functions as energy
production, protein metabolism, bone formation, and the synthesis of L-dopamine. Maganese has been used as a therapeutic nutrient.
Zinc
(as Aspartate) 15 mg Zinc is commonly used to enhance wound healing, treat skin problems and boost immunity. It is involved in more body function than any other mineral
Molybdenum (as Aspartate) 100 mcg Essential trace mineral that has a vital role in uric acid formation Lemon Bioflavonoid 10 mg Bioflavonoids provide synergy in the absorption and utilization of vitamin C. They are also known to increase the strength of the capillaries and to regulate their permeability.

Potassium (as Ascorbate) 100 mg Mineral important to both cellular and electrical function. Supplementing with potassium can be helpful in treating hypertension specifically caused by excess sodium. Alcohol, coffee, caffeinated drinks, sugar and diuretic drugs cause potassium loss.

Magnesium (as Ascorbate) 154 mg Considered the antistress mineral, it functions to relax skeletal muscles as well as the smooth muscles of blood vessels and the gastrointestinal tract. It is considered an important mineral in preventing coronary artery spasms.

Vitamin C/Ascorbic Acid 4000 mg Important essential mineral. (See description in Product Details.)

Calcium (as Ascorbate) 100 mg One of the most important and most abundant minerals in the human body, it may best be known for the development and maintenance of bones and teeth.
